The Copper Chase – a two-day, adventure style race – returns for the second year July 1-2.  I happen to know that teams are in for a treat because Nick and Jonathan – your fearles race directors – are bringing their usual bag of tricks and then some.  I'm keeping an eye out for the mud pit, the mountain biking portion, the lily pad test and more.

a very special test...

Checkered flags and Silly outfits June 13, 2006

This weekend was the grand opening of the Ten Mile Speedway – the only go-kart track in Summit County.  To open the track in style, Copper hosted Derby Days.  Teams of four competed in a number of differently formatted races in what I can only describe as organized chaos and to add to the atmoisphere, the teams also held a contest for the most outrageous team costumes.

The racers enjoyeds the wind in their hair, the crowd enjoyed the tight corners and silly costumes, and the haybails around the track will see another weekend.

The Ten Mile Speedway is open throughout the summer at Copper and is available a la carte or as part of the Summer Day Pass.

Thanks,

LP

Joe Satriani at Guitar Town June 5, 2006

Can I just share how psyched I am for the Joe Satriani show during Guitar Town weekend?  Check out his 1992 "The Extremist" album for some outstanding instrumental guitar.  I'm hoping to spread the word to all the guitar aficionados out there who would especially apprieciate a free show in the mountains.  All the Front Range Guitar Centers are involved in strumming up (ooo, bad pun) some talent for the Gutars On Fire amateur competition so we should be able to spread the word on a fairly grass roots level.  We might even excite some people who wouldn't normally associate Copper with great live music.  I love seeing the diversity of people that come out for Copper's unique events.  And when I can truly be excited, it's all the better.

Until next time,

Hello,

First off, thanks for checking out or blog.  I'm excited to have a new way to share my thoughts and keep you updated on what's going on at Copper.  It's pretty quiet around here right now, we're closed for mud season and spending our time getting ready for the summer and next ski season.  Our General Manager, Gary Rodgers, announced yesterday there were 162 days until the start of next ski season.  It will probably seem more like a week considering all the events lined up for the summer.

3 Ring Weekend will be a circus – literally.  Over Fourth of July weekend, Copper will feature circus perfromances from New Vision Cirque out of Boulder, free kids circus clinics (beware when walking through the village – the kids are still learning how to juggle), the Copper chase adventure race and a free concert from Wyclef Jean and Refugee Camp.

Here's a few pictures from last summer's 3 Ring Weekend. Enjoy!

 That's Sven    Circus Performance

Talk to you soon,
