Gearing up for the summer season at Copper June 2, 2006

The locals have a saying ariound here. You move to Summit County for the winters but you stay for the summers. The sentiment couldn't be more true right now. This is my favorite time of year in the high country. It reminds me of why I love living here. The highest Aspen trees are finally blooming, shifting the dominant color from a snowy white to a lush and slowly deepening green. The river levels are healthy and full. The temperatures are nearly high enough for flip-flops at night. And the aniticipation of another great summer at Copper is almost tangible.
Driving into work this morning, I smelled the freshly cut grass of Copper Creek Golf Course. That's a scent everyone can relate to, but imagine what it's like to smell spring while marveling at the SKY chutes or the distant peaks of the Gore Range. It may sound hokey, but I'll tell you, I never get sick of it.
Incidentally, the go-kart track looks nearly ready to roll. I'm going to try to sneak in a "test drive" one of these days. For safety sake of course…
Until next time,
CG

Copper Creek Golf Course opens tomorrow, June 2 - I went on a week-long vacation in May and when I came back to the resort, I couldn't believe how green the grass was on the golf course and that, in the wake of 30 feet of snow this season, we're ready to go so early in June.
Our par-70, 6057 yd long course works for both beginners and seassoned golfers with forward and back tees. Someone once told me that you can drive the ball farther at Copper Creek because of the elevation – I haven't brought Mythbusters out to check yet, but what a confidence booster.
Talk to you soon,
